On 20 Octoberthe Ukrainian Bar Association Committee on Telecom, IT & Internet Law organized a regular meeting in the framework of the project “How does IT work?”
Artem Serdyuk, product owner and project manager at ISM Ukraine, coach on flexible methodologies at Scrum Guides, explained the participants the meaning of Agile, Scrum and Kanban terms and applying them in business.
Mr. Serdyuk paid attention to the fact that Agile is an approach that solves the problems of traditional management. This methodology solves the basic questions of projects where no one knows the final kind of product or terms of work. The most important thing at Agile is the final product, so the product takes precedence over the process. There is always a person from the side of a customer who is empowered to prioritize the work. An intermediate product has to be made every two or three weeks. That is the reason why conflicts between the customer and contractor are minimized.
The speaker also described the Scrum methodology. Among the main Scrum features Mr. Serdyuk said are work in sprints, backlog maintenance together with a self-organizing team. Explaining the significance of sprint and backlog, Artem Serdyuk stressed that sprint is a time period with a definite task, while backlog covers all tasks with priorities.
Furthermore, the participants paid attention to Agile’s legal registration. The speaker advised not to limit Agile within the framework of an ordinary contract and to prescribe the conditions and scope of work precisely.
The majority of information is registered in supplementary agreements. Thus, it is recommended to use the No Cure = No Pay monetization formula, i.e. pay for benefit.
Within the framework of the meeting, the participants also discussed Kanban methodology and its features. Mr. Serdyuk highlighted the visualization of workflow, limiting the amount of work in progress and constant acceleration of chain transit time.
